Exhibition Overview
In this exhibition, we focused on social change. In art class, we chose a issue that we were passionate about and created an art piece that people could connect to and learn from. In our humanities class, we write short narratives about a time we were judged, or about a time that we judged someone else based on appearance. We then chose a few of those "Hair Stories" to turn into vignettes that were then performed at exhibition.
Reflection
Out of our entire exhibition, what are you most proud of? I'm really proud of everything that went into our exhibition. However, if I had to pick one thing that I wouldn't change anything about, it would be my art piece. I worked with a partner on this piece. We wanted people to relate to our art and understand the topic.
If we had more time, what would you change? I would just spend more time rehearsing our vignette. While our exhibition performance did turn out really well, I think that some more practice would have really made it come across more powerful and overall as a better piece. We were working on memorizing lines up until the day of, so more rehearsal time would have helped us to be more confident on stage.
Describe how you contributed to the group and/or team while preparing for exhibition. For the art portion of the exhibition, I contributed a lot. My partner and I both worked incredible hard to put our piece together by generally using our classtime well and coming in at lunch in order to finish. For humanities, I mainly worked on writing our script and I tried to take leadership responsibility during our vignette rehearsal time.
What would you like to keep in mind for next semester's exhibition? I want to keep in mind that our exhibitions can really affect people. SInce we generally deal with tough content and controversial topics, we have to remind ourselves to remain sensitive to people's opinions and not let our personal feelings towards a topic affect our ability to properly present them.
Which Habit of Heart or Mind do you feel you used most while preparing for this year's exhibition? I think I mainly used the Habit of Mind "Perspective." In my art piece, I took multiple perspectives on an issue, women's rights, and combined them to make one cohesive work. My vignette also dealt with perspective and different ways someone might see themselves.
